Kate and Matt came to me after finding an instagram post from a wedding I had shot at Highgrove Estate, which is where they are getting married. I was really excited because Highgrove is probably one of my favorite venues to shoot. After a quick coffee date to explain their vision, we began planning their engagement shoot. They really wanted a fall look to their photos. We planned the shoot for early November.
As the date rolled around, we had trouble finding nice fall color! We didn’t know it at the time, but fall would hit Raleigh hard a few weeks later, but it’s funny at the time thinking we had missed the peak leaf season; the leaves in the mountains had been long gone by the time of our shoot and I usually base Raleigh’s peak off of that.
But no worries, I had just the spot for them and I’m glad they were up for it! William B. Umstead State Park is an amazing forest and I’ve spent a lot of time there riding my bikes. I knew from experience that Umstead had amazing fall color.
Kate and Matt were a breeze to work with! They joked around that they were awkward in front of the camera, but man they blew it out of the park! Y’all really made it easy.
I can’t wait to shoot their wedding in May of 2020 at the Highgrove Estate once more!
